London Broncos Prop Romain Navarrete was pleased to have got his first try in the Black, White and Red of the club after crashing over against Keighley in the Betfred Challenge Cup on Saturday.
The French International was making his Broncos debut and, having had fun poked at him from team mates in the past for not scoring, he was pleased to sort that out quickly with his new Club.
He told Broncos media “People have laughed a bit because I played in Super League for so long without scoring but I am glad to have sorted that out already and get my first points for the team and hopefully not the last.”
It has been a long time without competitive action for the players and the former Wigan and Wakefield front rower was pleased to be finally back out on the pitch.
He said “I played a bit in 2020 of course but some of the lads have not had a game for a year. It was good for everyone to get out and do what we like to do.”
“It was a good start for the season but there were too many penalties and we should also give credit to Keighley who really put us under pressure at times and asked some questions.”
The focus for the Broncos now turns to York who will be the next team to visit the Rock for the Betfred Challenge Cup second round tie next weekend and Navarrete expects this to provide a different kind of test.
He told us “I think it will be another step up for us against York and that is ok because we can play better. We all want to be in that next round of the cup but it is also good for us to play another Championship team and test ourselves because this year we have not had any friendly matches.”
You can watch the game with York on Sunday 28th March at 2:30pm on the BBC using the red button.
